Harvard Business Publishing's summer internship program provides graduate level students with a comprehensive learning experience. In addition to gaining on the job experience through a variety of project and assignments, HBP interns have access to resources that Fortune 500 companies purchase for many thousands of dollars. As part of the internship program, there will be several scheduled activities and meetings designed to provide students with a deeper understanding of our business and our strategy, as well as numerous opportunities to network with individuals across the organization. The ten-week program runs June 5, 2017 through August 11, 2017. Students work full-time and are paid a competitive hourly rate.

Through its flagship magazine, books, and digital content and tools published on HBR.org, Harvard Business Review aims to provide professionals around the world with rigorous insights and best practices to help lead themselves and their organizations more effectively and to make a positive impact.

Our User Experience (UX) team is seeking a graduate student intern to help improve the experience of HBR.org. Our goal is to make users' interactions with our brand frictionless and delightful. As a member of the UX team, you will be working very closely with the product and design teams. You will be involved in creating interactive prototypes and conducting usability tests for projects across the organization to better understand what users need and how the design and development decisions our teams make impact the value we deliver. You will participate in kickoff meetings with stakeholders across the business and you'll have the opportunity to network with an active in-house UX community of practice. You will be exposed to the full UX life cycle of researching, designing, prototyping, building and testing—all within the context of an Agile development methodology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Attend design meetings
  • Create interactive prototypes using Axure or Adobe XD
  • Recruit and schedule usability test participants
  • Create usability test plans
  • Moderate (facilitating) usability testing sessions
  • Summarize test results for projects via informal reports
  • Help others with setting up and analyzing unmoderated usability tests via UserTesting
 
DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Must be currently enrolled in a master's degree program in UX, human factors, product/industrial engineering, or similar program.
  • Being curious—wanting to understand why people use our products and how we can make them better.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills within a team environment; comfortable conducting research (interviews, usability tests).
  • Desire to learn; interest in the publishing industry.
  • Able to share ideas openly and take direction from others.
  • Detail-oriented and able to keep documentation organized.
  • Exposure/experience with prototyping tools (e.g. Axure, Balsamiq, InVision), and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator). Working knowledge of HTML/CSS is a plus
