Join our collaborative, team-oriented, and supportive environment and help us to continue improving the practice of management in a changing world.

The Job

This Product Manager: Editorial & Multi-Media role will have two key responsibilities:
  1. Collaborating closely with editorial stakeholders to support and develop roadmaps for new and expanded digital content offerings on HBR.org. HBR has a robust set of editorially-driven products that require product management expertise to ensure reader engagement and business success. These products include our videos, social media accounts, newsletter program, our subscriber-only features, the Big Idea, and flagship parts of HBR.org including the home page and article page templates. The Product Manager: Audience Engagement would be tasked with goal and hypothesis setting, scheduling, requirements gathering, socialization, and generating buy-in from stakeholders throughout the organization.

  1. Acting as Product Owner of the “Consume” outcome team. As a multi-disciplinary scrum team, the Consume team is tasked with designing, testing, and developing new features and feature enhancements on HBR.org as they relate to reader engagement and consumption of content. The Product Manager: Audience Engagement role would be tasked with leading the Consume team, setting priorities for the work the team takes on, backlog management, reporting on progress, adhering to the rules of scrum, and acting as liaison between the business and the team. In this role, he/she will lead the scrum team of developers, designers, UX researchers, testing analyst, and scrum master (note: the PM will not be these peoples’ line managers).
Key Tasks:
  • Collaborate closely with key editorial stakeholders within the organization.
  • Generate and integrate feedback from the Consume team, leadership and stakeholders alike.
  • Create and manage product roadmaps in collaboration with other stakeholders across the organization.
  • Assist with the continued growth and development of video and social media as key editorially-driven products within the HBR.org suite.
  • Develop hypotheses and measures of success (KPIs) related to tests being run and work being conducted.
  • Embody and evangelize our “test and learn” approach with other stakeholders.
  • Help the outcome team to understand the organizational goals and priorities, as well as the work that is related to them.
  • Create descriptions, requirements, definition of done, and user acceptance criteria for each of the backlog items.
We Will Be Interested In You If You Have:
  • 3-5 years of digital Product Management experience; especially that in video and social media
  • A proven ability to empathize and successfully partner with various stakeholders in a matrixed organization
  • Excellence in communication and a proven ability to tailor your communication and approach based on the situation
  • A proven ability to lead through influence, not authority, and demonstrate the ability to make smart trade offs
  • A proven track record of launching successful products and driving growth
  • A strong desire and ability to understand users and customers (just in general but also familiarity and experience with qualitative and quantitative tools, UX research and analytics)
  • Comfort in a “test and learn” culture
  • Experience working in Agile with the Scrum methodology
  • Grace under pressure
