At Harvard Business Review, we publish the best ideas in business and management to help people, organizations, and economies work better. We are seeking a Senior Editor for our digital team who will focus on how technology and automation are changing companies and the future of work. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for an ambitious, innovative editor to identify and explore the ideas shaping the industry, bringing a journalistic eye to how HBR covers everything from AI to regulation to data privacy. This is a great role for an editor who is curious about how all of these topics intersect with the future of business and work and is eager to contribute content across platforms.
Success in this role will look like building a diverse network of top academic and practitioner contributors on topics related to tech and the data economy. You’ll be active in identifying new voices and ideas to add to the breadth of our coverage as well as vetting pitches and article ideas from some of the world’s best experts. And you will be comfortable contributing across platforms and formats from newsletters to video to podcasts.
--Acquiring, editing, and advising on text articles – both short form and long form – that cover how technology, artificial intelligence, and the data economy are changing how we do business. You’ll help the HBR audience make sense of these topics through new research, stories from companies, essays from experts, and interviews.
--Vetting pitches from outside experts, including academics, consultants, and business leaders, and advising on which to develop and which to reject.
--Using intellectual curiosity and rigor to help prioritize the topics we cover around tech and how we engage an audience of decision makers, business leaders, and ambitious learners around those themes.
--Leveraging a passion for digital media to advise on and/or participate across platforms, including newsletters, podcasts, and subscriber-only conference calls.
--Evaluating the performance of articles and topics and advising on new content experiments.
--Enthusiastically working on a collaborative, collegial team which believes in a culture of editorial excellence.
--We’re looking for a strong editor who will be able to hit the ground running. The right candidate will have at least 8 years of editing experience with demonstrated knowledge of the tech sector and a proven ability to write clean copy.
--Solid editorial and/or news judgement and the ability to make decisions independently are also important.
--Having an understanding of how to collaborate with outside expert contributors on everything from line editing to structural development is a major plus.
--You should have a point of view on how digital distribution channels work best and how to engage audiences around tech content.
--A strong collaborator who will enjoy making HBR a great place to publish and a great place to work.
